The story of the Lancashire Witches refers to several familiars their names included Ball, Dandy and Fancie they took the forms of dogs, a cat, a bear, a man, a hare and even a boy.

The toad has often been associated with witches. They are otherworldly - nocturnal and magical creatures. Toads have a long heritage with Lancashire. Natterjack toads can be found in rare breeding grounds in just a few special places in England and Scotland.

The Natterjack toad is olive green in colour and in the spring when the males attract a mate their toad song can be heard over a mile away.
